Paddy Considine joins Caitlin Moran adaptation ‘How To Build A Girl’, Lionsgate takes UK distribution

Paddy Considine has joined the cast of UK feature How To Build A Girl, the adaptation of Caitlin Moran’s semi-autobiographical novel directed by Coky Giedroyc (The Hour).

Sarah Solemani (Bridget Jones’s Baby) and Laurie Kynaston (England Is Mine) have also signed up to the cast, with production now underway and running throughout July and August.

Lionsgate have boarded UK distribution on the film, with Protagonist Pictures handling worldwide sales.

Already cast in the film are Beanie Feldstein (Lady Bird) in the lead role, plus Alfie Allen (Game Of Thrones), Joanna Scanlan (Pin Cushion), Arinzé Kene (The Pass), Frank Dillane (In The Heart Of The Sea), Tadhg Murphy and Ziggy Heath.

The coming-of-age comedy is an adaptation of Moran’s 2014 book about a working-class sixteen year-old-girl (Feldstein) in 1993 who aims to break free from her life in Wolverhampton by reinventing herself as rock critic Dolly Wilde.

Produced by Monumental Pictures, the project was developed by Film4, who are co-financing production with Tango.

Monumental co-founders Alison Owen and Debra Hayward are producers, with executive producers including Daniel Battsek, Ollie Madden and Sue Bruce-Smith for Film4, Tim Headington and Lia Buman for Tango, Zygi Kamasa and Emma Berkofsky for Lionsgate and Moran.

Other upcoming Monumental productions include Ghosts, a multi-character sitcom from the team behind Horrible Histories. The series will air on the BBC in 2019.
