A weekend of success for HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE

Hunt for the Wilderpeople opened in the US this past weekend. Released in LA & NYC on 4 screens along with a solitary theater in Toronto, the New Zealand smash-hit comedy took a whopping $85,336 at the box office, providing the domestic distributor, The Orchard, with an impressive $17,067 per screen average.

We are thrilled by Hunt’s opening weekend performance, which kicked off with amazing reviews, a 100 per cent Rotten Tomatoes score, and encouraging Thursday night advance screenings,” said Paul Davidson, The Orchard’s EVP of Film & TV Sunday when reporting the numbers. “Throughout the weekend the word of mouth has continued to grow at an impressive pace, and our anticipated broad audience across many diverse demos has come out in spades — encouraging as we expand across the country starting next week.”

And whilst the people of Los Angeles and New York flooded to their local theatres to see the film, it was also being celebrated by Edinburgh festival-goers in the UK as it scooped the prestigious Audience Award at the EIFF. The film proved a huge hit at the festival, with three sold out screenings and rave reviews.

The rest of the UK will get an opportunity to see the film in the Autumn when it opens via Vertigo Films on September 16th.
