Eric Bana starring in Special Correspondents

By otm

Ricky Gervais is co-starring, directing and writing

The Invention Of Lying (dodgy, underseen)and Cemetery Junction (better, but also mostly ignored). He’ll be hoping for better things with Special Correspondents, for which he’s recruited Eric Bana.

Gervais has scripted the film and plans to start shooting in New York and Vancouver next spring. Bana will play a Manhattan-based radio journalist who enjoys privileged status but has slowly being undoing himself thanks to arrogance and his decadent lifestyle.

When his bosses decide they’ve had enough, he volunteers to report from the front lines of a conflict – only to fake the dispatches from his hideout above a Spanish restaurant in the heart of the Big Apple, aided and abetted by his technician sidekick, played by Gervais.

Sales company Protagonist will be pushing the film to buyers at this month’s American Film Market, which is kicking off shortly in Santa Monica. Gervais is also planning to once again revisit The Office’s David Brent for a film titled Life On The Road and will be back as Dr. McPhee in Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb, landing here on December 19.
