Synopsis

Robert Eastwood is an innocent, brought up in a world of evangelical Christianity that has taught him to look for signs and to believe that evil is waiting just outside the front door. When he goes to school he is shocked to discover that no one else thinks the world was created in 7 days or that Jesus will be returning. Caught between his mother, who’s determined to bring Jesus’s love to a dead mining town, and his best friend Marcus who’s introduced him to teenage rebellion, Robert becomes embroiled in a spiritual tug of war as he tries to escape his religious beliefs. It’s then that he discovers a dead body in the woods and realises that God has sent him a sign.

Andrew Hulme

Andrew is the writer and director of The Devil Outside. With over 25 years experience in the film and television industry working as one of the UK's top film editors, Andrew transitioned to directing in 2013. He directed and (co) wrote his first feature film, Snow In Paradise which screened in the Un Certain Regard strand of the Cannes Film Festival 2014. The film was also shown at festivals round the world and released in the UK by Artificial Eye and in France by WildSide/The Jokers. As an editor, he has worked prominently with director Paul McGuigan, editing films such as Acid House (1998), Gangster No. 1 (2000) and Lucky Number Slevin (2005), for which he won the award for Best Editing at the Milan Film Festival 2006. Andrew has also worked on films such as Control (2007) and The American (2010) for director Anton Corbijn, as well as director Bart Layton's critically acclaimed feature documentary The Imposter (2011). Andrew has also edited prominently in television with director Julian Jarrold. He’s worked on projects such as the ITV drama Appropriate Adult, (winning an RTS award for Best Editing); the BBC/HBO feature drama The Girl (2012); Channel 4's crime saga Red Riding 1974, (for which he was nominated for a BAFTA TV award for Best Editing in 2010).
