Synopsis

BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE is a warm-hearted comedy in which refugees from war-torn Bosnia encounter and transform the lives of a number of London characters.Two Serbs, originally from the same village, but sworn enemies in the recent war, meet by chance on a London bus and start a fight. As we track the progress of their conflict, the inter linked and troubled lives of four British families unfold as they are touched in various ways by encounters with other refugees from the former Yugoslavia.

Jasmin Dizdar

Jasmin Dizdar was born in Bosnia on 8 June 1971. From 1984-89 he studied Film & Television Direction at the internationally acclaimed FAMU school in Prague, where (among other films) he directed WINNER (16mm/12 min.) and AFTER SILENCE (35 mm/25 min.) His TV drama OUR SWEET HOMELAND won the special jury award for Best Director at the Prague Film Festival in 1987. Dizdar came to the UK in 1989 and was naturalised British in 1993. Between 1992 and 1994 he lectured part time in Eastern European Cinema in at Warwick University, and in 1995 was commissioned to write BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE, which marks his directorial debut in feature films.
